After Mexico City Kris, Elyse and I headed north to Guanajuato, a small town that used to be one of the wealthiest in Mexico due to local silver mines. The town is nestled in a canyon and is threaded with tunnels that are now used to manage traffic. With traffic underground, Guanajuato becomes almost pedestrian friendly, a fresh reprieve from Mexico City.

Teotihuacan

We visited Teotihuacan on a day trip tuesday. The ruins are about an hour north of Mexico City and contain some of the largest intact pyramids in the world. Only Cholula in the south (which is in ruins) and the pyramids at Giza are larger.

Mexico City

We’ve been in Mexico City four days now so here’s a brief synopsis of what we’ve been up to. John , Kris and I arrived on Saturday and immediately started exploring the area around the Zocalo, the historic center of the city. The Dia de los Muertos celebrations were still going on, and we were able to catch some of the festivities in the zocalo saturday night. It was a nice transition from the festival in SF we went to the night before.
